The University of Seville joins the declaration of State of Climate Emergency promoted by the ONU

The Governing Council of the University of Seville (US) has approved the institution's adhesion to the Charter Declaring the State of Climate Emergency, an initiative promoted by the ONU and by the Environmental Association of Universities and Centers of the United Kingdom (EAUC , for its acronym in English) and has the support of educational institutions around the planet.
As reported by the University of Seville in a statement, this initiative aims to make visible the concern and support of higher education institutions regarding the state of climatic emergency in the face of the next summit on Climate Action held on 23 September in New York.
The letter will be sent as a collective action to all members of the different diplomatic delegations and to the media before the start of the Summit.
The text raises the need for a drastic turn in society to combat the growing threat of climate change. Young people who are trained in higher education centers must be prepared with the knowledge, skills and ability to respond to the growing challenges of this reality, what it demands. For this, the joint work of all the signatory institutions of this declaration is necessary, which assume three fundamental commitments: the mobilization of resources for research and techniques applied and dedicated to climate change, the commitment to be neutral in terms of carbon emission in 2030 or, at the latest, 2050 and support for the creation of environmental education and sustainability programs within university campuses.
The driving institutions ask governments and other educational centers to join the declaration of the state of climatic emergency and take concrete actions that allow a better future for the planet and its inhabitants.
